"Thorn-o-caster"

LTD-1

Well...got the call today folks. A long time coming and well worth the wait. Ron completed this guitar for me today. In a nutshell, it's my take on a Tele:

- Lacewood top on Alder body (with some spalting)
- Tummy carve, dropped top and smoothed upper neck access
- 25 1/2" scale
- 1 piece maple neck w/skunk stripe
- 10" - 14" compound radius
- New American Tele style bridge, w/LR Baggs piezos
- Fender American standard Tele pickups
- 4 way switch (n, n+b (serial), n+b (parallel), b)
- Custom desert theme inlays
- Desert Canyon Red finish

The guitar plays like a million bucks and sound like a billion. Exactly how a Tele should sound IMO. And looks?? Crap...they don't make a number that big.

Please note that Thorn Guitars does not offer this body shape any longer.

The bridge saddles contain small piezo pickups. These have a small pre-amp, wired inside the control cavity and can be used in addition to or instead of the regular Telecaster (electro magnetic) pickups. I use the piezos to produce a sound similar to that of an acoustic guitar. The knob and switches assist in this:

The 3 way switch is used to select either electro mags, piezos or both.

The extra potentiometer is used to adjust the volume of the piezos (or to blend them with the electro mags)
The little "push-push" switch next to the potentiometer enables you to chose mono or stereo output. When I gig, I set it to stereo and this enables me to send the piezo output out of one side of the stereo and the electro mags out the other side. I send the electro mags to my regular amp and the piezos to an SWR California Blonde, which is designed for amplifying acoustic instruments. Works like a charm and makes the guitar sound huge!

Inlays

This was a fun one, but the best time was when Leon came over and hand selected every piece of wood, abalone, bone, jade and pearl for the fretboard inlays. We had a blast go over each one deciding what would look realistic, color match, or simply not end up looking like a lobster :b ...it was a blast.
The guitar is cool and Leon will enjoy it for a long long time, but seeing Leon as jazzed as he was just doing that for an hour was really what I'll remember and enjoy for a long long time :D .

You're the man, my friend!
